EXHIBIT YOUR BUTTONS AT NATIONAL 2010

Taking a vacation from competing, or find it's not for you?  Here is an opportunity for you to do something new, to share your knowledge and perhaps learn some more about your buttons.

Some of you heard the new ideas at the general meeting at National; some of you have heard some of the ideas by talking to one of the committee members.  Below is the entire outline and plans for the NEW Educational special exhibits for National for everyone to consider

This committee hops that many of the members will find this a fun and exciting opportunity exciting to put together trays in a more unconventional way than by the classification or competition rules.

Back in the 1940's and 1950's, National and state conventions did not have competition as we know it today. Instead they had exhibits. Exhibits were not just put together by clubs or state societies; they were also put together by individual members. These exhibits were always considered to be a wonderful education for the person putting the trays together, as well as for the people looking at the trays during the convention.

Although we have created some guidelines and rules for these NEW exhibits, we believe many of you will find these guidelines do-able. It is our hope that those who view these trays will find them a treat to look at, and, at the same time, will feel they have learned something about their buttons and the buttons of others.

We have set forth two categories for exhibition, shell and metal. We've further narrowed the focus because as you all know, these are very substantial categories. We'll assess the success of this approach and decide whether to expand the categories for future exhibits.

At the convention this year in Manchester, New Hampshire, there will be an idea box placed in the showroom. If you have any suggestions or comments or suggestions about the exhibits, we would appreciate those comments being written down and dropped in the idea box so that we may further enhance the exhibits for future years.

Below is the outline of the NEW educational exhibits. The committee invites your questions if you have any, so please feel free to contact any committee member listed at the bottom of the page. New Educational Exhibits Outline

Category 1: Shell/Pearl Buttons (use one of the sub categories below)

  1) Non-iridescent buttons

  2) United Pearls

  3) Cameos (whatever subject matter)

  4) Assorted Shell/Pearl (no balance necessary)

Category 2: Metal buttons (use one of the sub categories below)

  1) Yellow metal buttons

  2) Steel cups with OME

  3) Pierced metals

  4) Assorted Metals (no balance necessary)

Rules & Guidelines for exhibiting:

•Trays must conform to National size- 9" X 12"

•Tray slips (Div. 8 Educational) must be ordered for each tray entered. There is no charge for these slips. There will be a space under the Educational line on your tray slips application entitled Special Exhibit: please check this space.

•Exhibitors may enter up to three trays total (i.e. two may be entered in  shell/pearl and one in metal OR vice versa, OR three in either category but no more than three total. This is a current National rule)

•Each tray should have a minimum of SEVEN buttons and NO MAXIMUM. Any size button is appropriate.

•Labeling your buttons (You do not have to label by classification rules but rather by button type, etc. Please give any information you would feel is educational and you would like the viewer to know about each button) . Although labeling is not required, the committee would REALLY appreciate and encourage labeling as this would provide an educational component to the exhibits.

•The exhibitor may ask the committee up to two questions per tray by writing a question under the button. (Example: is this Div. 1) Write it at the bottom of the tray if it is a more general question. (example: Are any of these buttons metalized plastic?)

The Special Exhibits Committee will make positive EDUCATIONAL comments if needed on each tray and answer the exhibitor’s questions.

Respectfully submitted:
