about favorite button topics:

In the April-May 1981 NBB a piece was posthumously published by Ruth Ann Huntzicker, which spelled out her views on how radiants should be judged.  It is upon her principals that this judging sheet was developed. Besides the obvious desirability of a wide range of colors, shapes, and other distinguishing characteristics, she brought up the need for balance between the four groups: reflectors, radiants unnamed, dewdrops and glories.  She worked out the ratios and determined how many buttons from each group should be represented on a card of 42.  This judging sheet rewards balance up to a perfect score of 42.  In addition both transparent and opaque colors as well as counters have been codified.  The goal is to make the complex business of judging radiants straightforward for both the judges and competitors.
