A Happy New Year to each of you. May you have good healttr and much
happiness in your home all during the year and may each of you have additlonal
enjoyment in your hobby and in the friends you have made thru it.
We have been fortunate, of late, in having our magazine "hit the mails"
around the 25th of the month, thus reaching rnany before the ffrst of the month
in which it is due. We are pleased that ttris has been made possible.
Because we include another Catalogue in the China family and additional
pages of Special Awards, wlrich we believe will be helpful to our members and
dealers during the winter monttrs, we had to hold some of the Show pictures over
until our next issue.
We know that you are going to enjoy ttre varied articles our Editors have pre-
pared for you. Their contributions represent a great amount of time generously
given to correspondence and searching for the needed specimens to include, tabu-
Iate, drarr or photograph; to formulating plans for arrangement and presentation;
to writing, checking and swapping information with other Editors . . . and so on,
sometimes for months. A draft is then made and improved upon many times.
Often, at the last minute, unexpected material arrives which must be photo-
graphed and included and that means the article must be rewritten. When the
magazine is finally put "to bed" we all breathe a sigh of relief ! This respite, occa-
sionally, is of short duration because additional information comes from places
we least expect and this, too, must somehow be added in the "dummy"-if pos-
sible. And that's the procedure from the treginning of an article to the printed
page.
We are deeply grateful to collectors and dealers, near and far who search for
the buttons we need for photographing and including in our articles. Stay close
by, please, for we need your continued support,
Mrs. Bess Terry, our Special Awards Chairman, presents additional pages of
Special Awards for the National Show in Atlantic City. She states that she will
continue to take awards up to January 5th. If any of you wish to give a 1960
award, first look over the awards published in the November 1959 Bulletin, pp.
268-2'll, and those included in this issue, pp. 35-39. Then decide on your award
and air mail it, together with your check, to Mrs. Terry immediately. (See inside
back cover.)
Since the Show is in my own State this year, I \drant to prepare as many trays
as possible. Generally I haven't the necessary time for this phase of the hobby
but f shall do my best. We hope that all of you will be planning to enter trays
and to attend the Show which will be held in the beautiful Carolina Room of the
ChalJonte Hotel. The Music Room close by will give us ample room for our pro-
grams. T'he National Luncheon rvill be held in Haddon Hall. Why not write the
hotel for rates and make your reservations early. (See inside back cover.)
Our Show Committee, headed by Paul Conlin and Mary Houghton, as Chair-
man and Co-ctrairman, has already held two meetings for planning the 1960 Show.
Ttris Committee will do all in its power to make the coming National Show a
success.
