Clear colorless glass
Green radiant radiant with green glass
Remember that in the Blue Book, it says that the color of a glass button is deter-
mined by the color of the glass body at the shank whether the shank is glued,
embedded or self-shanked (Blue Book (2023), p. 39). Of course, there is an
exception: radiants are identified by the body color (Blue Book (2023), p. 41),
not the dab of color at the shank!
What about china buttons? They can be even more confusing.
The Blue Book says:
“Colors assorted. Includes color coming from the body/
base, or from a surface decoration applied onto that base.
Awards may specify color(s)
of focus, which may come
from either the body
and/or the decoration.
Any amount of a spec-
ified color qualifies the
button” (p. 34).
It is important to read the
award carefully to see if the
emphasis is on the base/body
color or the surface design color.
What about this openwork enamel button? Do you
think there is enough green to call it a green button?
Join me at the Button Ups monthly meeting on the
third Sunday of each month at 4PM EST. We will
discuss this and other buttons. The link is on the
NBS website.
Let’s celebrate Spring by mounting a card of your favorite green buttons!
