             Rrass  Button  lllold.  No. l  shows  the  opened  moltl  with  u-ooden  tranclles; no.2,
             the  casting  or  slug  showing  the  five  buttons  intact;  no.3,  the  mold  closeal'
             lvith  the inscriptions  on the back.  The mold is ?B/a inches long.

                 EIGHTEENTH  CENTURY BRASS BUTTON  MOLD  WITH
                                 SIGNATURE  AND DATE
                 The mold illustrated is  a t'are specimen.  Its  uniqueness  lies in  the
             fact that it  is both dated and inscribed with  a name.  The hand  engJraved
             inscription,  "HaDes  Mijlinger 1755"  is centered  aDd seems to have been the
             flrst name  on the mold.  Possibly the second name "Jacob  Melinger"  rtu'as
              that of a descendant of the li|st, the suliiame,  being the Auglicized  version
              of the Ge|nan.
                  The method of urolding  or casting  pe\Mter l)uttons is exactly the same
             as recortled in the BUTTON BULLETINS,  for  1946, January,  pp. 40-44 and
             October  p.306.  This latter  mold bears the signature  "T'Badman  Fecit."
             Numerous  brass molds  bear the initials "I  M ".  We do want to record here,
