tation of all types. But, if you wish to make a tray of any one type then
it should be entered in SectioD 3A, Class 50 as opaque specialized, blue (or
whatever type you use/.
Mrs. Caroline Toothe's award is for Section 14, Class 155, Pictorials,
assorted in blaek glass, small. So often the beautiful lustres, gold and silver
outlines and iridescents are included under the name "black glass" and many
are uncertain whether to use them in this case or not. Mrs. Toothe tells
me that this is offered for black glass, undecorated. This is indeed a chal-
lenge, and those of you who compete will have a lovely rich tray. To ar-
range trays for these special awards is exciting but be sure to plan trays for
other classes as well. Consult the advertisers in the BULLETIN for the
extra buttons you will need to complete your trays. Good hunting and suc-
cessful trays for all.
HORTENSE SCALES
IN MI'IIORIAM
DAVID J. LLOYD
Again the bell tolls and National has lost another of her early support-
ers. David Lloyd answered his flnal call Monday, JuIy 2nd in the Veterans
Hospital in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Possessed of a rare sense of humor and a fine discriminating mind,
David was quick to see what would or would not benefit the Society and was
always ready and willing to give of his tirne and ability to help in any way.
His counsel has always been sound.
In 1941, Mrs. Lillian S. Albert headed a committee to enlarge the
Button Classification then in use. Mrs. Albert solicited the help of Mr. Lloyd
who drew up a comprehensive set of classifications. This "Report and
Recommendations for Classiflcations for the 1941 National Show" was print-
ed on pp. 1?, 18 of October, 1941, Hobbies magazine. The Classification
'was used that year and for several years, being amended, however, by the
succeeding chailmen.
Mr. Lloyd's speech, "The Function and Importance of State Button
Societies" printed in the N. J. State News Bulletin, JuIy 1942, has been
copied by many other State Bulletins. Another widely quoted article, copied
by both State Societies and National, was his "Reminders for Judges at
Button Shows," wlitten first for the N. J. State Nen's Bulletin, August,
1942, and reprinted in the N. B. S. Year Book published April, 1943.
Dr. George E. Gould invited David to be a member of the present Re-
r.ision Committe€ and he sent in several helpful reports.
To his parents and to Dorothy we offer our deepest sympathy.

tion of officers, at the Luseurn of Natural History, located at 2717 Euclid
Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. on October 27th and 28th. This will be a two

This museum is one of the finest in Ohio, and we are sure that those
attending this meeting will not regret it. There will be four button dealers
present with lots of buttons to sell. The Society is giving four cash prizes
and a door prize to the lucky exhibitors.
This museum is close to eight down town hotels and convenient to all
stores and restaurants. All are welcome to come and join in the fun for
these two days of buttoning.
