note;This is a some\\,hat rare, but useful error for dating backmarks on
uniform Coat buttons. A similar spelling error exists commonly on a
cuff backmark die in this time-frame. but it is not the same die. It is best
dated by using U.S. Arrny Great Seal buttons. The first error is an F for
an E in Superior. This error is on a specific coat die for a brass, rimless,
coat button dating fi'om 1902- 1 910. In an attempt to correct this specific
die, a second error \\ras made - an upsidedown F was used on a round
rimmed, brass, lined field Great Seal button that is pre-WWI. Such but-
tons could be brass or black from 1910- 1917. A groove around the shank
also identifies this die.
