                      Classification Agenda

(For vote at National, August 2008)
The annual Membership Meeting on Classification will be held Wednesday
evening, August 13th at 7:00 pm. All NBS members are invited to participate.
The following items will be presented for a vote:
        1. Round realistics: The proposal is to limit them by adding the following
statement to the current Listing Glossary under realistics:
"Round Realistics: "Button has the shape of and depicts a subject that is
circular or spherical in shape. For example, a circular or spherical button
depicting a baseball is considered a realistic, as is a circular button rep-
resenting a hat of round design. Excluded are buttons depicting subjects
made circular or spherical through artistic manipulation such as dogs'
heads, owls' heads, sea shells, horseshoes, etc." Still included are the
circus set, patriotic set and coin set.
        2. Shapes: Add a Glossary entry for Cl 23- 10.2.1 Oval. The clarification
would read "Shaped like an ellipse or egg (if an egg were symmetrical).
Only a continuous smooth curved edge is allowed unless award speci-
           fies modified, e.g. scalloped.
        3. Enamel vs. Paint: Reinstate the original class (Paint/Enamel) for both
black glass and clear and colored glass. Class 6- 4.3 Paint would become
           Paint/Enamel, and Class 7- 5.4 Paint would become Paint/Enamel
(class numbers will stay the same). The Listing Glossary would have the
           following added:
Paint. Pigment in oil base solution which mayor may not be fired onto
a glass surface. Includes chemical paint (dull gray color) and imitation
wood. Enamel. Glass powder (vitreous enamel) applied as a paste
painted onto a glass surface and fired. Enamel is thicker and appears
           more glass-like than paint.
        4. Horseshoes: Add the following Listing Glossary entry for Class 18- 7,
Horseshoes as follows: "Horseshoes may be shown alone or may be
attached to the horse's hoof Unless excluded in the award, they may be
accompanied by other pictorials, such as a whip, clover, flowers, etc. as
long as the horseshoe is prominent. A horseshoe forming a border is
           appropriate in the borders class."
We urge you to attend the meeting and vote on these proposed changes.
