Inlay: Designs formed by laying into the surface of black glass other ma-
terials or glass of contrasting color. Pearl is the material most frequently
seen inlaid in black slass. (11,12)
lfaterials in combination: Place here any button that makes decorative use
of black glass combined with other materials. Include both black glass as
a trim on such materials as cloth ( 7 ) and metal ( 9 ) and buttons of other
materials with black glass trim, horn (8), pearl (10). Do not include
metal rims.
Metal a,ttached: Include here both trim that is held in place by riveting and
by clamping. (14-15)
