About Our Covers
On the front cover is a beautiful view of Mount Fuji adorned with a lovely raised
rim Arita button. Read Inge Borland’s article inside this issue to see and learn
more about the Yuzan kiln that produced
this button and others you may be familiar
with, as well as some others that are less
common.
On the back cover, we have several bamboo
themed buttons from the late 19th century.
These were likely inspired by the display of
Japanese objects and artwork at exhibitions
in several European capitals in the 1860s
and 70s. We have two celluloids and a
wood background dating from the late 19th
century. These are all NBS large in size.
