                               THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
                                                               September,1951.
                                 Dear lrl.iends.-
                                     Over half  of  the  year since my  election has
                                 Dassed.  Last fall,  I  was coDglatulated, and asked
                                 how I  liked being the N Il  S president.  I  leplied:
                                 "I  like the sensation and hope sincerely I  will  be in
                                 as good standing  at the sarne time next year as I
                                 appeal to  be now."  It  one may jndge from  the
                                 courtesy  extended and the co-operation  received this
                                 past year'-I  rnay be safe!
                                     I  am looking forward  to the 1951 Annual  Meet-
                                 ing and Show;  to renewing  old friendships  and to
                                 making  new contacts. llany  trays for entry, if  not
                                 already filled, must by now be well on their way to
                                 completion.  I trust also that reservations  have been
                Florence P. Aberle  ma<ie with  the  Hotel  Morrison.  Sounds  exciting,
                                 does it  not?  (See  ad on Back Cover).
                 Plans for our Meeting  have progressed  smoothly,  and all will be in
             readiness to greet you in Chicago, in October. Mrs. Carlberg, President of
             the Illinois State Society,  and Mls. Hotz, Show Co-Chairman,  and from the
             Chicago  Area Club, bid you aU WELCOME.
                 To the Shut-Ins: For winning trays,  we have provided  Special Awards
             and a Silver Cup. We hope you will surprise Miss Rickey with your efforts
             and send in your  button cards. (You have no special rules other than to
             use a 9x12 card). I shall be looking for your  cards and to see v/hat interests
             you most.
                 Victor Flint, General Show  Chairman,  advises  much activity in  pro-
             curing booths.  Just think of the buttons  which will change  ownership,  grace
             new trays and flnd new hornes!
                 The application  for entry blanks was enclosed in the July issue. The
             information was also given regarding  the luncheon,  president's and editor's
             suppel', and othel Show details.  Read  your BULLETIN  carefully, and last
             but not least, lend all yout efforts to make the Chicago  Meeting a success.
             Co-opelation  from all is an essential.
                 The cartons  containing l'our trays slroultl be sent prepaid  and adtlressed
             to NIr.. Victor Flint, National Rutton  Society,  Ilotel llorrison,  Chicago,  Ill.
                 These  cartons of buttons will be stol'ed at the Hotel until opened. They
             are covered by Insurance,  from their arrival  there until they leave the Hotel
             fol their retuln to you.  Every care will be taken to assure  their safety.
             These cartons should be sent to atl'ive during the x'eek of September 23rd.
             Octotrer lst is the deadline  da,te for all entries.  The  judges  begin their work
             at 8 o'clock  on the Znd and it takes tirne io classify and hang the trays.
                 I  have noticed, the times I  have attended our Shows, that aII are
             anxious to get on the floor', at the opening of the Show. You will note that
             I have  changed  the time for our Open House, from before the Show's  opening
             to the hour. after the Shorv closes  on the first day. I hope this may meet
             with the apploval of the najolity, and that a time to talk over the day's
             events, and a social hour enjoyed,  may be a welcome change.
                 By this time, you have read the report submitted  by your Nominating
             Committee.  Care was given to have representation  from our entire country.
             If you cannot  be present,  do avail yourself of the privilege  of having a voice
             in the election, by sending in your proxy.  This  proxy must be in the hands
             of your Secretary, Mls. Bessie  Chamberlin,  at least one rveek before the
             Meeting. A proxy is enclosed for you.
