January, 1960 NATIONAL BUT:TON BULLETIN
MtrLD MAKES BtrTH BUTTtrNS AND BULLETSi
A hand-operabed mold of any entirely diffelent kind from any previously
known has recently been reported by Bereniece Mattheus of fndiana. It produces
four buttons and two bullets at the same time.

                                                             Y'#,.
                                                                --{c-
                                                             \1 I "--
                                                              tg_--,at

The photograph shows how the six are placed with the buttons on long
and the bullets between them. Why there is no third bullet is as much
of a mystery as why there shou-ld be any at all!
The smallesi button (7: inch) has a quatrefoil design. The larger ones (two
of which are % inch, the other 7s) are alike in pattern. ft would seem to be a
Pennsylvania Dutch motif incorporating a heart. AU of the details are unbe-
lievably sharp and delicate for buttons made in this way.
The mold itself is a beautiful piece of crafLsmanship. It is six inches long.
On the back it is engraved with the signature "Nathn Dean."
Mrs. Mattheus loaned this very unusual mold for the showcase exhibit at the
National Show in Los Angeles, California.
Note: A comprehensive article with photographs and descriptions of button
molds of all types will be found in the September, 1957, Bulletin.
