September,1961 NATIONAL BUTTON BULLETIN ,?1
MEMBERSHIP:-Have you sent in your NEW member for 1951? The
membership blanks sent with the membership cards, brought many returns.
A big thank you to all who secured a NEW member and an extra thank you
to the members who sent in more than the asked for one. 'We are now
nearer the goal of 2000 members for NBS than ever before, but we need
more members. It is not too late to enroll members for 1951. Please keep
in mind that all who pay dues for the 1951 year-whether NEW or renewals
receive all of the 1951 bi'monthly BUTITON BUrr'nHNS. If you
-will not sent in a NEW member, DO IT NOW. Tell your prospects how
have
outstanding the 1951 BULLETINS 41s-1\411sh the Wedgwood number-May
the Classifications and the new GLASS Classification-July the DIRECTORY
and a feast of information. (One member wrote that the MAY number was
more than worth the price of the year's dues).
NEW MEMBERS:-A special word of welcome to our many NEW mem-
bers. We hope you will enioy being a m.ember of the NBS family. Those
who paid dues Iate in the year, please remember that all 1951 memberships
expire December 31, 1951, and that the renewals for 1952 must be sent in
early in order to receive the January 1952 BULLETIN promptly.
DUES:-Although the NBS year is from January 1to December 31' the
last number of the BULLETIN is the November issue. To insure receiving
the January 1952 BULLETIN prornptly, it is necessary that the renewals are
paid before the end of the year. December 1 will be the deadline date for
na.mes to be listed on the printer's January mailing list. The dues for 1952
can be paid at ally time. The large maiority'of the renewals are usually
received during November and December', the months of holitlays and the
busiest time of the yea,r for the Secretary. Why not plan to pay your 1952'
dues at SHOW time in Chicago? The Secletary will be there and ready to
receive the dues. It will lessen the heavy load at the rush time and you
will be sure of receiving your 1952 BULLETIN without delay! Last year
just one hundred memberships were paid at SHOW time. Let's make it flve
hundred or more this year.
MEMBERS:-The Secretary corrects and tnakes additions to the print-
er's stencil mailing list before each rnaiiing. Because changes of address are
not received in time to make the change some BULLETINS are sent to the
wrong address and are returned to the Secretary. Every effort is made to
locate the correct address and then the BULLETIN is forwarded. Changes
of address should be for a permanent one--not just for one or two issues.
The Printer attempts to get issues out on the first of the scheduled pub-
lication month. BULLETINS will sometimes be two or three weeks on the
way because the second class mail moves slowly. Often times a lal'ge num-
ber of BULLETINS are held up in the large telminals. (Chicago, St. Louis
and others). Some States receive the BULLETINS very promptly, while
others are much later. BULLETINS in Massachusetts are usually the last
ones received. If you do not receive your ISULLI)TIN lvithin a rnonth of
the publication time, plea-se notify the Secretary. It is important that such
notices are sent direct to the Secreta.ry as she has the printer's lists for
checking.
CHICAGO:-The Secretary is thus early anticipating seeing many mem-
bers in Chicago the first week of October. OId friends, new friends, to meet
and greet. She will be waiting for you at the NBS booth. The joy of the
SHOW for her is having the membership cards come to life.
And now back to the v-oods where I am gathering strength for the days
and work ahead-when September comes and I gt'eet you,
"-tongues in trees, books in the running lll'oolis,
Sermons in stones, and good in everything."
Happy Buttoning to you all.
BESSIE F. CHAMBERLIN, Secretary
