                                 THE SECRETARY SPEAKS
"The trees are God's g:reat alphabet.
lVith them he lvrites in shining: green

June 30--and for the once it is difficult to
bridge the s.pace of two months' time to greet
you in September. X'or the fifteenth consecutive
surnmer, I am at the GirI Scout Day Camp, again
as Nature Consultant, working and playing with
neally one hundred Brownies and Girl Scouts.
While teaching nature, I am learning many les-
sons. Here in the woods of sturdy oaks and
hundred year old pines, I am finding something
r,hat cannot be fcund in the city life. Strength
Bessle F. Chnrnberlin from the oaks, serenity from the pines, and hap-
                                      niness in service.
Now it is September. I hope you all had a very pleasant and happy
sulnlner, and are now leady to resurne routine and make final preparations
fol attending the NBS meeting and Show at Chicago in October'.
In July you received youl J,951 DIRECTORY. We hope you think it is
the best ever. As you tuln the rnany pa€ies, do you I'ealize how much work
is involved in the pleparation? Directly after the first of the year-and
svsn bsfsvs-the Editol and Secretat'y get busy with the Directory wor"k.
The finished pages you now have are the result of their efforts, and look so
little in comparison rvith the houls spent in preparation. The Secretary's
task is the membership list. The deadline date was April 15-and extended
to May 1. (Six weeks latel memberships and corrections were received hop-
ing to be published). if you are disappointed because youl name does not
appeal tll'your address is not correct, it is because the information was re-
ceived too late. For the Secretary, preparing the membership list for the
DIRECTORY is a pleasure and a sadness, as names are added and others
must be removed. AII 1951 members recorded since the DIRECTORY was
published will be listed in the Novetnber BULLETIN.
PROXY VOTE:-The proxy vote fonn to be used at the Annual Meet-
ing to be held in Chicago October 6, 1951, is enclosed with this BULLETIN.

be much appreciated. Send direct to the Secretary. If sent to other persons
the receipt of it by the Secretary is delayed. Last year several reached her
too late to be included. The proxy vote is your plivilege. Use it!
