Nov.-Dec., 1965 NATIONAL BUTTON BIILT,r:TIN
B,EPOR,T OF TEE SEUT-IN DIVISION CIIAIBMAN
To ttre Ofiicers and Members of ttre National Button Society:
As the chairman of the Shut-in Division f have again enjoyed working witb
the members. f have received so many wonderful letters from our shut-ins, tellfurg
me how muctr ttrey appreciate what National, its members and ottrer clubs are
doing for ttrem. It is good to hear about them arnd how through their buttons ttrey
are making their lives so much fuller.
At Cleveland la^st year the hostess clubs gave the lunctreon souvenir button
and the card with the Michigan rock on it for each of my shut-ins. Ttrese along
wiih other buttons I sent at Christmas time. Dwing this year I have mailed tJxem
all of Mrs. Edittr Rodway's classification sheets. I am sure you all will join me in
thanking Mrs. Rodway for this contribution, for ttre ,'cla, ssifications,, seemed to
inspire and interest many of the Shut-ins.

This is a good balanoe, but I want to point out to you that with the exception
of cards and postage, everything was donated this year, even the large envelopes
used for the classincations. r would like to have the same amount that was irx last
year's budget included in tJris year's . . . which was 925.00. It may not be necessary
to spend all of this, but we cannot be sure of so many donations this coming year,

To ttre Officers a,nd Members of tJre National Button Society:
T1xere were several letters of inquiry this year concerning BUCKLES-the
latest addition to Division rV.
Most of these had the same problem-l2 pair of Buckles were too many for
an attractive mounting on our siandard 9" x L2" caxds. fhls sounds reasonable
and should merit discussion.
I realize that comparatively few collectors hear or read ttris Report, and ttrere
is very little in the Glossa^ry about Buckles. But there were quite a few errors on
those enterrd for competition last year so r will repeat the instructions given last
year-Tlxese Buckles must be basically pairs of Buttons equipped with fasteners.
T'lxer€ were some entries in ttre other class€s last year but we should have a
better showing of our Specialties-Netsukes, Strrds, Cufi Buttoru, Bridle Rosettes,
etc. More Special Awards would create keener competition.
Respectfully submitted,
